Andy the Gas Man
Through Twitter I found Jamie Oliver’s web site this weekend. Thanks to Andy the Gas Man (whoever he is?) we had a pretty good dinner last night.
The thing I love most about his recipes is the language he uses. There’s nothing in the main text about 25ml of this or 2 cups of that. He has knobs of butter, and roughly cut this and that and lugs of stuff. It’s more than just wonderful language. It gives the user (in this case me) the freedom to interpret what a knob and a lug are. I am aware there may possibly be official measures for these terms, but right now I don’t know them, and I love that.
There certainly is a little of me in each of his recipes.

Jam Buns
Leish is away in Durbs for the weekend visiting her mom. We’re doing a poijtie for lunch and the girls are baking ‘jam buns’. Kitchen is a mess. It’s wonderful.
We went scooting this morning, attempting a ‘car free’ day. Amazing how comfortable the girls are on the road after a week of scooting. It makes me puff up as a dad watching them master the road. Such a liberating thing to be mobile and able.
Couple of pics can be seen here.

What’s a knob?
Anyone know what a knob is? Specifically related to cooking. And more specifically to butter and Jamie Oliver’s recipes.
Leish and I get stumped everytime we cook. Clearly, as would you, we then get imaginitive around what the ‘naked chef’ may be using as the measure?
So if there is anyone out there who has any idea of the size of a knob, let us know? On second thoughts maybe not. We do have a lot of fun trying to work it out.
