The River Crossing
On Sunday we (Carli, Jordi, Leish and I) took to the river on our bikes. This week we went up stream. It’s a little more challenging and we wanted to see how J ‘n C coped? Our end goal was the Field and Study Center for brunch. Was a stunning day weather wise and we all ended up a little sun burnt. Niiice.
The girls were amazing and tackled everything in their path. Not a hint of pause at any of the obstacles, possibly assisted by a blind faith in mom and dad being able to catch them should something go wrong : )
For those that have ridden the Spruit (as in Braamfontein) then you may know that in order to get into the Field and Study Center, you’ve got to cross a smallish wier, with plenty of water flowing. It’s an awkward crossing as the water can make it look like your drifting, and then you overcorrect and end up in the river or in the little waterfall depending on which direction you’re going.
Neither of the girls flinched at the idea of going across. I rode on the outside of them to ensure that the overcorrection didn’t have them in the river and they both got across like stars. Carli did have a little wobbly and we both ended up putting one foot down. But no tears or disappointment, just one massive confidence boost that we’d gone so far and obstacled through so much.
Was luverlee : )

Post Winter Ride – Done and Dusted
We did it. The re-entry into summer sport after a cold winter. This morning Leish and I got our bikes up and running, and hit the Spruit for 2 hours.
One puncture, two sore bumbs, and me glad it was over means we’re officially cyclists again.
Of course you always wish you’d kept your fitness up during winter, but in my case it’s not ever happened. One day I always say. One day : )

Bike Park in the making
I’ve been updating stuff this morning and found some pics of our Bike Park project we embarked on in December last year. Needless to say, as with all December projects, it didn’t get much further than that, although there were some grand plans.

Little buggers. Bees.
Feeling very bloody frustrated today. Yesterday, while riding with some mates along the river I got stung by a bee. On the inside of my ear. Guess that answers the question around whether I have big ears.
Anyway it was damn bloody sore. Leish managed to get the sting out, but not before it had burst in my body.
Everyone asked if I was allergic to bees? I didn’t know? I could only remember one other sting in my life and it was when I was a kid. As far as I knew, the answer was ‘no’.
Boy was I wrong. A few minutes later and my head wanted explode, my face had turned red, my already big ear was starting to swell, my chest felt increasingly tight, my lips felt like Angelina Joli’s.
Long story short, I ended up in Sandton Clinic, on a drip, and then spent the rest of the day in bed. Completely wiped out.
As my mate Kevin kept saying, such a little creature, such a lot of damage.
Little buggers. I am no longer their friends.
