Father’s Day
What a luverlee day. We’re in Dullstroom (see previous post) with the Stevens family.
Woke up to luvs and cuddles from Carli. Then loves and cuddles from Leish (once Carli had left to watch TV). Then coffee, sticky buns, and wonderful presents. Such different presents to what I’ve ever had before. Blanket, jumper and 4 Africa-Style figures for the bar. Genius present choices. Genius present buyer I suspect.
A brunch being cooked as I write, by all the girls (there’s an extra one this morning in the shape of Mel) while the boys write blog posts, fly aeroplanes and dream of fishes that will be captured later in the day.
Been a father for 8 years and 5 years. That’s 13 years concurrently if my maths is correct? It’s a gift being a dad. Not everyone has the opportunity. Sadly, there are some with the opportunity, who never choose to step up to the plate.
Have I been the best dad I could be? Probably not. Heck, definately not. I’ve missed some opportunities. I’ve said some dumb things. I’ve responded and reacted inapropriatley from time to time. But I reckon I’ve averaged consistantly higher than whatever the pass-mark is. Even shooting the lights out from time to time.
So thank you:
- J&C, for continuing to allow me to be your dad. It is your choice. It will always be your choice.
- Leish, for adding value to my dad-ness. You’ve taught me much about what dad’s are about.
- For a luverlee day, full of spoils, and fun.
